I specialize in psychotherapy for couples therapy, marriage therapy, engaged couples, and other diverse romantic and sexual issues. Couples who work with me find that I am insightful, fast, and effective.
My practice serves individuals with anxiety, depression, and OCD. For people with anxiety, I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), an evidence-based practice that includes structure and skills orientation. For depressive symptoms, I use a combination of CBT and existential-humanistic psychotherapy, which focuses on values and meaning in life. When a client has OCD, I use the evidence-based practice called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
My services are 100% online through SecureVideo, a service that uses Zoom’s technology but which adds additional layers of security around our calls.
What to expect in the first few sessions
1st Session
In the first session, I learn about the challenges and strengths you bring to therapy. By the last 5-15 minutes, I offer something new to try. That might be homework, an exercise, a new way to have a conversation, or a resource like a book, video, or website. In that sense, every session is a working session to help you.
2nd and 3rd Sessions
In the second and third sessions, I conduct a thorough assessment. For individuals, this assessment is split across the two sessions and only takes half of the sessions. The other half of those sessions in individual therapy are used to continue learning about and helping you with the challenges you face. For couples, I conduct the assessment with one member in the second session and with the other member of the couple in the third session. These sessions help me ensure that I don’t miss anything that could inhibit the effectiveness of our work.
4th Session
In the fourth session, I bring in a draft of the treatment plan. The treatment plan includes the following information:
- Diagnoses, if any
- Anticipated number of sessions to complete your goals.
- Your goals, as I have understood them. Even if you have more goals, I find focusing on one or two at a time more effective.
- The interventions that I will use to help you accomplish your goals.
- The indicators you will see if we are making progress.
- The indicators that you have accomplished your goals and don’t need my help anymore.
We review and revise the treatment plan collaboratively and use it to guide the rest of the fourth session. This way, we work together to ensure that you get out of therapy what you came in for.
